365 Blank Pages Ahead

Standing on the brink of another year filled with the brilliant unknown, I have some wants.

As a daughter,
I want to be less critical and more accepting.
I want to see more of the good and less of the annoying.

As a sister,
I want to listen more and talk less.
I want to be more welcoming and less occupied.

As a friend,
I want to be less consumed and more available.
I want less email and more face-to-face.
I want to assume less and create more.

As a mama,
I want to yell less and have more patience.
I want to resist less and surrender more.
I want to be less in my head and more in the room.

As a wife,
I want to be less critical and more supportive.
I want to busy myself less and relax more.
I want to complain less and to smile more at the end of a long day.

As a woman,
I want less fear and more faith.
I want less second-guessing and more boldness.
I want less comfort and more risk.
I want to create more in every facet of myself.

And as I learned from a beautiful soul
who left this planet way too early,
I want to dare to disturb the universe.

Happy 2009 my friends.
Hope to see you face to face.

  1. Happy New Years! I LOVe your new template. I too am a tired mom!

  2. love the new look. those are some great goals. well said

  3. love the makeover. very cool. listen, your first verse jumped out at me, big time. sometimes i feel like it is too late for me and my mom (oh nothing too major) and i think if i focus on my relationship with MY kids, it somehow makes up for the rough patches between me and my mom. but you are right, it isn't too late, and i can be less annoyed and critical and just focus on the good with my own mom. thanks for that.

oh, and you already strike me as bold, so i think you can check that one off!

  4. Man...I love your writing!!

Less in my head, and more in the room...I am gonna steal that one like a thief.

    Happy New Year!!

  5. Hey, I think we can all relate to everything in this entry! I think will make these my New Year's Resolutions.

  6. That was beautiful!

I love the new look! Very Snazzy

    Happy New Year

  7. Wow, what a wonderful post! Great sentiments for '09.

My goal is too look less like Fat Bloated Britney and more like Fit Sexy Britney. Why I am comparing myself to britney is a mystery.

  8. Lee, that is well said and inspiring. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Also, I like the new look around here.

  9. This is so inspiring! I love your introspection.

  10. now THAT was DAMN good. I can't even be a smart ass about it.

LOVE the new look. You've been BUSY while i was away.....

  11. What a great post of reflection..

  12. Hmmmm....I LOVED this post. There's something about a new year that brings the "hope" of being a little bit better as a person. It feels good to start fresh. Thanks for putting it so beautifully.

Oh, and here's to lots more face-to-face:)

  13. That's the best list of goals for the year I've seen! Very insightful. And I love your new look, dah-ling! ;)

  14. I'm a new reader - found you through the site. I am a first-time mother of a six-month old daughter who was inspired to start blogging as a way to journal my life as a mother and to make sure I had all of her "first" down somewhere (I'm horrible at actually writing it down in her baby book). I read your description of what MWOB was all about and was hooked! I'll be tuning in!

  15. Happy New Year. Thos are some really terrific wants!!!

  16. That is awesome!!!! I haven't checked in in awhile and what a treat to read your latest. LOVE IT!!! And ... a good reminder for all of us to focus on what's important. Thank you.

I love your new look too ... very hip, very modern, very you.

  17. That's nice Leane. I think about these things sometimes too. How to be a better husband, son, brother, uncle, friend. It's always a work in progress, and one where there is no perfection, just always the chance to improve and get better.

  18. Wow, that blows away my feeble resolution to be a better person. You really hit it on the head.

  19. Truly wonderful goals - brave to put them out to us in print - i can't wait to re-assess on Dec. 31st! :) And THANKS Lee for the beautiful shout out to our dearly missed soul sister, Nicole. She did dare to disturb the universe - over and over again - and we are all better for experiencing life with her. And if you happen to be reading this, Stacey, thank you for sharing this incredible "universe" passage - we won't ever forget it.

  20. Love the great post. I'm with you, fear less this year....
