Her appetite for gifts is insatiable

On Friday night, December 26th, as I was tucking The Love Fairy into bed, I leaned in close, rubbed her nose with mine and gently kissed her gorgeous face.   As I said good night and was about to get up to leave, she said,

"Mama?"

"Yes, honey."

"I know we just had this Christmas but how many days are left before the next Christmas?"

With wrapping paper and Santa gifts scattered all over the house, lightning-fast thoughts of "holy shit - she has got to be kidding me" ran through my thoroughly exhausted brain.  Despite my utter disbelief that this question was being asked, I was able to muster the calm response of,

"About 364 days are left before the NEXT Christmas."

"Is that a long time?" she asked.

"Yep, it's a pretty long time."

But I have a feeling it'll be here before I know it.

I better start cleaning up before the next onslaught.

It may very well take me 364 days to do it.

  2. Oh that's toooooo true.

My mom was laughing because she said every year I'd open my gifts and then I'd say, "I know what I want NEXT year!"

I guess paybacks really are hell, huh? ;)

  4. I saw the same thing on a sign "Only 364 days til Christmas"… I guess I'll have to start wrapping my gifts I lost in the house for next year.

  5. It will take me 364 days to recover from this fun but tiring holiday AND to get my gifts bought for next year!

  6. My kids do that with Birthdays! And then get upset when I can't "make" the day come any faster, sigh!

  7. Your last two posts are the best ones I have read in a while anywhere. I think they embody the entire spirit of who you and your family are.

  9. Yep. I've tried explaining to my 5 year old that she should appreciate the Christmas/birthday/vacation we just had before jonesing for the next one but it hasn't clicked yet.

  11. Good luck getting it all put away. I just finished getting everything boxed up and it was exhausting! The years really do get shorter every year!!

I am glad this holiday season is coming to an end. I am worn out. All we did we go places, visit people and eat. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. I miss you and your crazy family. I say "crazy" in a good way!!!
