Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel: A GIVEAWAY to Celebrate a 7-Hour Drive Across the Desert

Tomorrow, I will leave our Westside Los Angeles home in a Honda Odyssey packed with a 7-yr-old, a 5-yr-old, a 2-yr-old, an assortment of suitcases, bags, and snacks, and ONE DVD that holds the promise of getting me almost the ENTIRE way to Phoenix (7-ish hours) without any whining or crying:

Alvin and The Chipmunks: THE SQUEAKQUEL!!!!

The Squeakquel

All three of my kids are hooked to the core of their beings on Alvin and his buddies. When they watched the 2007 Alvin and The Chipmunks movie on HBO, they sat spellbound and just fell head over heels in love with these lovable furry creatures. We've seen that flick like 50 times.

They saw "The Squeakquel" twice in the theater and I am not kidding that ever since then, they have been asking "When will The Squeakquel come out on DVD?" Isn't it mind-blowing that kids are already clued into the marketing pattern of kids' films? First a theater release and before the hype dies down, a DVD release.

So when I received an email with an opportunity to receive the DVD, I truly could not contain my excitement. I get my share of product opportunities, but as you know, I do very few reviews/giveaways. I only talk about stuff that truly resonates with me and my lifestyle and since Alvin is already such a HUGE part of our lives, I could not resist this one.

The brilliant Squeakquel addition to The Chipmunks scene has been The Chipettes, the chick-munk counterparts. My girls dig Brittany, Eleanor and Jeanette so when I brought them a stuffed TY Brittany doll after my recent Chicago trip, they flipped.

The Chippettes

My kids dance to The Chipmunks and The Chipettes through the iPod hookup in their room and trust me, they can totally shake it (including Tommy, my 2-yr-old dude) to the Chippettes version of Beyonce's "Single Ladies." Tommy totally believes he is a single lady. Hey, I'm not gonna be the one to burst that bubble.

As the "mom", I can say that I have totally gotten sucked into the movies. I like the hip, campy fun of the plot lines and the diverse personalities of all of those furry rodents. The only bummer for me was that the quirky, lovable, character of Dave was minimized in The Squeakquel. But what both me and my husband especially love is that the film is not scary. At. All. My kids get totally freaked out when it comes to the required, evil character in all kids' films. I think that's one reason they really love The Chipmunks. They know there is nothing to fear.

I love how this film is kid-friendly but also modern and hip with the cool tunes. I mean, how can you not be into your kids learning how to shake their groove thing?? Unless of course, you're NOT into your young kids learning how to shake their groove thing. But I love me a good story and I can totally get behind my kids dancing like mad in their room to some good Chipmunk tunes. Sold and sold.

So if you're already a Chipmunk fan or you're willing to give it a whirl and be indoctrinated into the fan club, here's a cool giveaway....

I have FIVE copies of "The Squeakquel" to give away to my loyal readers.

Want one?

All you have to do is leave a comment for an entry.

And as always over here, if your comment makes me laugh, you get another entry.

And if you tweet about it or RT it and @me (@leevandeman) then you'll be given another entry.

Sound cool?

So the deal is I've held off letting my kids know that I have the DVD in hand and I'm gonna pull it out tomorrow after about 5 minutes on the 10 Fwy heading West when they ask me "Are we there yet?"

And I'm betting that "The Squeakquel" is gonna give me a much more peaceful trip than usual. And I'll be tweeting along the way to update you on my progress.

So when does this giveaway end? At the end of Easter day 4/4/10. (Blogging Standard Time)

I'm off to start packing.

P.S. Make sure you leave your email address if your profile doesn't link back to you. And if you don't have a profile, who cares? Leave your name and a valid email address and you're in!!

  1. I'm pretty sure I'm not eligible for this, but I'll try to make you laugh anyway...

A grasshopper walks into a bar.

The bartender looks up and says "Hey! We have a drink named after you."

The grasshopper gives him a questionable look and says "You have a drink names Murray?"

Thank you. I'll be here all week. Just shaking our collective grove things.

    Happy Easter!!!

  2. or groove things.

The grove things are not ripe enough yet to be shaken.

  3. Okay, Ash's follow up made me laugh. Is it awful that my daughter has been denied Alvin so far? Not purposely, just happened that way.

  4. I can't believe I'm writing this, hope you are familiar with the Phoenix suns gorilla....we took my 3 yr. old to a game, weeks later we drove by a bus stop, and she yells out, mom there is the suns gorilla, I'm driving, confused, I even said where, and then she points to a heavy African American!!!! Thankfully no one else was in the car.

And this 3 year old loved the movie, and I also loved how it did not scare her, and afterwards she loved how mommy had the single ladies song, she even puts her hand up and shakes it.

Have a safe trip and wave to me as you are approaching Phoenix.

  5. Yo lo - Yo lo - Yo lo - pick me for the Squeakquel! Please - please - please!

  6. Have a fun trip! We made that drive when we visited my in-laws in Phoenix and took a road-trip to Disney. I remember a pit stop in the middle of the night at a rest area where the only thing at that exit is a prison. I was just a wee bit scared...and made my husband park with a view of the ladies entrance.

  7. Hayden LOVED the first one and so did I. Oh, man I hope that I can win. :)

  8. All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.
And the Chipmunk Squeakquel. I had the 8 track and played it until it broke. Hopefully the dvd is sturdier than that.

  9. Pick me, pick me! Puhlease!

My now 4 year old son will crack me up every once in awhile with his "Heelllloooo Gorgeous!". Yes, I took him to Mickey D's. Yes he got the girl toy. And Yes it drives me crazy. Imagine, there are FOUR kiddos in this house with several of the McD toys from that movie. I at least need to know where the lines come from!

Okay, a chipmunk joke for you:

Two men went hunting. One had been hunting all his life, the other man was hunting for the first time. The one man told the other to sit down and not make a sound. So he did. But when the first man got 100 yards away, he heard a scream. "I thought I told you to be quiet!" he said.

"I was when the snake bit me," the man said.

"And I was when the bear attacked me. But when the two chipmunks crawled up my pant leg and said, 'Should we eat or take them with us,' I screamed."

  10. I want one I want one! When I was but a wee lad I would listen to the chipmunks christmas cassette tape for days on my dads big boombox. And if I slowed down the tape juuuust enough, the voices would almost sound real. Wonder if that will work on a dvd...

  11. I would love a copy of The Squeakquel! Actually I need three. I have three kiddos and am planning a trip from Salt Lake City to Disneyland (about 12 hours) in a minivan. The problem is, it's a silver bullet, ghetto minivan WITHOUT a DVD player. Can you imagine? So our road trips consist of one kid with my laptop, and the other two with WalMart players on their laps. Don't judge, my husband won't let me get a new car until I learn how to stop ripping off the rear view mirror when I back out of our narrow driveway. It's currently duct taped to the car. Sympathy vote? Worse part...I just ran into an old (HOT) boyfriend in the Starbucks parking lot...and I was in said duct taped, no DVD havin' van. OK, I'll settle for one copy. The kids can leg wrestle for it. Happy Easter and safe driving to you Lee!

  12. I love the chipmunks, but i haven't watched any of the movies. I've stuck with an old red chipmunk record that belonged to my dad. It has such classics on it as, "We like girls all kinds of girls, from Alice to Ver-on-i-caaaa".
My husband didn't believe that was a real song and so I sang it to him to prove it..but I happened to be in target at the time, and my voice carries, so it ended up being an embarrassing moment for me, rather than a moment of triumph. But, I was still right. It is a song. And if the people who make Chipmunk-y things would please release the red record on itunes I'd be ever so grateful.

  13. Chick-chickety-chee!Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeequel!

By the way, you know me.

  14. Have a great trip Lee! Would love to win a copy, I've never seen it but everytime we drive past the bill board my son gets excited!!!

  15. How'd the drive go? Most importantly, how was the reaction to you pulling that amazing little surprise out of your bag???

I have to admit I'm one of six parents in the country who did not see the squeakquel and didn't take my kids to see it. Not that they didn't want to... it just never really worked out to go. ANYWAY, my 9 yr old loves the chipmunks and my 4 yr old was addicted to the little Christmas Chipmunks sledding and singing decoration that we were given several years ago... you know it..."Christmas christmas time is here..." anyway. We also have a McDonalds toy that says "We're sisters uh-huh, we're sisters uh-huh..." forever and ever and over and over and over again!

Soooooo all this to say - sign me up, I'm in. I'm willing to forsake my sanity and welcome those little voices into my home... I'll be the best mom in the whole world if I win. And that's what I live for as you know.

  16. Can't believe you extended the deadline. I'm waiting on pins and needles...okay, maybe not. But I AM excited at the prospect of winning. And I DID tweet about it. And I DID tell you a funny chipmunk joke. I know it had to make you laugh.

    I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait.

I guess I'll have to wait.
