Snip, snip

Written by Annie

There comes a time when you either decide to have more children or you decide not to. We're at that crossroads at my house. Now, we aren't opposed to a larger family, but we feel very blessed with the two children we do have, and as selfish as it may be, I really don't want to be pregnant again. Top that factor off with the fact that I feel like we waited a tad too long for my spacing ideals, it was time to decide if we wanted to make it permanent.

My hubs has always been willing to do the big V, so we embarked on the urology journey last week to get the low down. After a brief, extremely detailed, stale old video, we met with the doc who explained "vas" procedures and protocol. I felt only slightly bad for my husband when he went into incision detail and talked about potential swelling and so on. Then I remembered I squeezed a child out of my vagina. Twice. And one of those kids was almost 9 pounds. That small incision didn't warrant such sympathy after such thought.

Then came the bad news. The news that warranted sympathy..........for me. The urologist said that to assure "clearness" hubs would have to have 15 to 20 umm...... "releases" before the first visit 6 weeks after the procedure. Then another 10 or so in the month after before submitting a second sample.

15 to 20? Let's do the math here. One week=no activity + One week=I'm out of commission due to a monthly visitor. That means 4 weeks or roughly 30 days to achieve 15 to 20 releases?!?!? Maybe another baby isn't such a bad idea! After all, it only takes once!

Still weighing the pros and cons,

  1. Seriously...15-20. That's a whole lot of releases. Um...GOOD LUCK!

  2. Tell him to get creative with those releases. Buy him a Penthouse magazine and send him to a private area. :)

My husband had the big V a few years ago - he drove himself to and from, came home, got a bag of ice and a flask and went to play poker. It was no biggie.

  3. Hey Annie? That release thing? ITS A SCAM. Out doctor said so...absolutely not necessary at all. Just once or twice the week before and that is it.

Let me guess. MALE doctor right?

  4. Don't these doctors know we're no longer in "rutting" mode?

    Hee hee

  5. I had to laugh here... and say that we too just contemplated going down this path. In the end, I was the one who had the procedure.

Good luck to your hubby. My poor one hasn't had "the deed" since mid-May... right before the baby - and now has to wait ANOTHER 2 weeks for me to "heal" from my new type of tubal procedure.

Oh well - sucks to be him! :)

  6. HA!!! What? 15-20 releases seems totally doable...His hands aren't broken are they?

  7. Releases? I love that. When do I get to start counting releases?

  8. His hands? You mean her hands right? And 15-20 would be asking some ,rather, many, guys to restrain themselves. And that, is not easy.

I am going to detach my boys soon as Lilly shoots out another one. Way to go Lee's husband for stepping up and doing this SIMPLE procedure!

  9. That was very funny. I'm so with the DIY people, though. Sure, you could help with a few/all if you feel so inclined, but seriously?

  10. Get him some magazines and lotion...he'll be fine...

  11. said it was no biggie, and really in the end it we know we can have endless fun without any lil surprises :)

  12. Haha, good luck Annie. I'm not sure I could do it, I might go for the possible pregnancy option too. You should stock up on Powerbars because you are going to need your energy.

  13. Annie - go for number three. Three years ago my dude and I were at the exact same crossroads and now I can't believe we ever considered NOT having our third. He's my lil' dude and I'm head over heels in love with him. Just like I am with my girls' but wow - I'm just glad we threw caution to the wind and went for three. NOW we have to deal with the snip snip because there is no way in hell we are having FOUR! And I am over my end of the birth control...
we better not have an oops. Oh geez. Now I'm stressed out.....

  14. haha. Enjoy your 'exercise' regime. Very funny post.

  15. Ugh. This really is a tough decision.

I'm terrible. We've been on the other end of the spectrum for the past year while TTC. Meaning, having to achieve as many "releases" possible every month.

It sucks. Especially for the woman.

Dude. Hubby is totally joining the V-team.

  16. "uh, hubby I would like you to meet your best friend..I call him HAND"! Good luck with that. Hell, buy him a pack of smokes some smoot magazines and send him to the bathroom and say "see ya in a week"!

  17. Wow, good luck with that :-) But get some rest before he has the vas!

  18. Hilarious! My hubs got off easy (wow, pun NOT intended) I had c-sections for both my babes, so it was a foregone conclusion that I would be snipped right after #2.

He almost went and got a vas done anyway after hearing that tubals aren't foolproof. Didn't kill his inner 16-year-old horn dog though.

Good luck with the procedure and the work out :-)

  19. we're working on the same decision these days too. That'd be alright, if that releases stuff is a bunch of malarky!
