W.W. - Anyone want to meet here for a drink?

This the Kon-Tiki Hotel of 1970's Phoenix, Arizona fame.  It means something to me on several levels but now it's gone.  Some stupid people demolished it years ago because they couldn't see how cool it was.  I think it would be a fun place to meet for a drink because doesn't it seem like the perfect place to have like a crazy MWOB weekend party?

Oh yeah....

This is the second time I have jumped in on Wordful Wednesday from Angie.
It's fun and low pressure.

  1. That reminds me how my wife and I always kid ourselves about the Greek restaurant we used to frequent that is now a park… "hey, let's eat at the park!"— I guess that's progress for you.

  3. we had a cool place here like that- it got leveled too and pissed me off! It was called the Parkmore. It would be sooo cool to meet fellow bloggers out- sadly I'm in lame ass middle of the country!

  6. I don't need much of an excuse to meet at a bar for a drink. We can meet in the parking lot and just bring a picture of this place - flasks and coolers in tow.

  7. That DOES look like a fun place! I hate it when they tear all the good places down!

  8. That's where I went for my post-prom party Junior year. It was very cool, but pretty skeezy.

  9. Let's go w/ Under the Influence's idea...flasks in hand! But it does really suck when everything "old" is being torn down!

  10. Oh how I would have loved meeting you there!!

The motel shot that's in my avatar has also been demolished. It was a vintage Florida motel, glass ashtrays and all.

Their now building a boutique hotel in its place.

  11. I don't really understand the insistence that in order for something to be "good" it must be new.

  12. You know, in Europe and such they don't just tear crap down and build new stuff. Things have been aroudn there for a bazillion years. Why in the USA do we continue to tear down and rebuild? What happened to HISTORY?

  16. Psh. I (unfortch) am used to "them" taking cool places down. I live in Vegas, where we blow anythinhg over 15 years old to smithereens and call it a party. "History, schmistory" is our OTHER slogan, didn't you know??

  17. This conjures up fond memories of hanging out in the back of the station wagon (window open, sans seatbelts--of course!!) and laughing my ass off with my best friend....good times.

It would have been great to share a drink there as adults (sigh).

    :-)

  19. There is an awesome tiki bar outside of Chicago called the Halakahiki (I'm sure I spelled that wrong).... the drinks stink, but the ambiance cannot be beaten!
